Chingari crosses 5 million downloads a day after the Indian government announced a ban on 59 Chinese apps including TikTok. This has led to a huge surge in downloads of TiktTok’s Indian rival Chingari and Mitron app. Chingari witnessed 1 lakh downloads per hour. In just about 72 hours, the Chingari app was downloaded 5,00,000 downloads on Google Play Store. And now that TikTok has completely stopped working in India, the numbers will only go up. Earlier, Chingari had welcomed the government’s decision to ban Chinese apps. Chingari would like to welcome all the users of TikTok to come and try out Chingari, which is a 100% India grown app and made for the passionate Indians.
Chingari App was released on November 2018. Sumit Ghosh, the co-founder and Chief of Product and Growth has said Chingari has been engineered and developed for over 2 years with regular feedback from the users. Mr. Ghosh also said the top 20 per cent of its most active users are spending 1.5 hours daily on the app and the average daily engagement time for its users is 7.5 minutes. For every video that users upload, they get points per view which can be redeemed for money. Chingari is available for both Android and iOS. This app is available in many languages- Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Odiya, English, Malayalam, and Punjabi. The app has three main screens or tabs— Videos, News, and Game Zone. However, on the top there is a banner ad to play quizzes on the app.
As per Google Analytics data shared by Sumit Ghosh on Twitter, Chingari has users not just from India but also from United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and even the United States.
Apart from these three tabs, Chingari app has a nice little feature where one can download the WhatsApp Status .
